GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The City of Greensboro wants to clear up confusion over an intersection that has become a public dumping ground.

The area of Cotswold Drive and Cotswold Terrace is not a place to drop off bulk items for the public.

The people who live at the Brittany Woods Townhomes and next door at the Commons On the Lake Townhomes can leave their bulk items by the entrance. That’s because they pay the city for the service, but people who don’t pay for it have flooded the entire area with trash, and the city has had enough.

“People will be dumping couches, mostly mattresses … beds, chairs, filing cabinets, toilets,” said Lance Albritton, who lives at the Brittany Woods Townhomes.

Albritton has seen the trash pile up every week for nearly 20 years.

“It will start off with one … Within two days, you have got a pile of things, and it is very unsightly when you have a pile like that. It draws more people to drop stuff off, so it gets worse,” Albritton said.

The city installed new signs in the problem area, and there’s a camera to keep an eye on who is dropping off bulk items.

“The camera will be good … Maybe they will find some of our frequent dumpers,” Albritton said.

He says in the last week, the signs have already deterred some of the dumping.

“Since then, there has only been one small item that was dropped off, and it was gone the next day, so it’s been pretty good with that. We will see how it goes over the next couple of weeks,” Albritton said.

Only residents at Brittany Woods Townhomes and next door at the Commons On the Lake Townhomes can use the bulk pickup near the entrance of the Brittany Woods Townhomes.

All the other complexes up and down the street need to sort out bulk pick-up with their trash provider.
