Asheboro police searching for teen after man shot on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One person was reportedly injured in a shooting in Asheboro, and police are searching for a teen suspect, according to an Asheboro Police Department news release.

At about 12:56 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a report of a shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, near Harrison Street.

The caller had told police that a man had been shot in the leg and a suspect had run away from the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital. Police say after the victim was taken to the hospital, a suspect was identified.

Warrants were then obtained on 18-year-old Kelvin Amad Cook, for:

• attempted first-degree murder
• assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
• attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon
• discharging a weapon into occupied property
• going armed to the terror of the public
• carrying a concealed weapon
• Three counts of discharging a firearm within the city limits
• injury to personal property

Police say Cook has not been found and should be considered armed and dangerous.
