Christo’s in Lexington significantly damaged by fire, officials say

LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — Christo’s, a popular pizza restaurant in Lexington, was heavily damaged in a fire Monday morning.

According to a news release, around 4:15 a.m., the Lexington Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Christo’s location on N.C. 8 and found “heavy smoke” pushing from the rear of the restaurant. While working to extinguish the fire, a second alarm was requested because of the heavy smoke.

The fire department says the building sustained moderate fire, heat and major smoke damage.

Larry Johnson, a local business owner, saw the whole thing unfold early Monday morning.

“I was sad. I mean I was glad nobody got hurt, you know, or anything like that,” he said. “This place is jam-packed constantly. I mean you can’t get in the parking lot here just constantly. And like I said, the wings are the best.”

Lexington Police Department, Davidson County EMS, South Lexington, Central and Linwood Fire Departments assisted in the fire.

The Lexington Fire Marshals Office is investigating.

No injuries were reported. There’s no word on a cause or if Christo’s will reopen.

Monday evening, the restaurant said in a statement posted to Facebook , “We want to begin by thanking everyone who has reached out. This is a very difficult time for all of us. The prayers and love shown for the owners, their families, the employees and restaurant have been greatly appreciated. We do not have many answers at the time, but we hope soon. Once we have more answers for a plan, we will share. Thank you to all our customers who have supported us throughout all these years.

There is another Christo’s location in Lexington on South Main Street.
