CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A Piedmont Triad man is facing charges after soliciting a child via social media, court documents say.

Documents obtained from Caswell County Sheriff’s Office show that Michael Christopher Giroux, of Burlington, has been charged with one count of soliciting a child by computer and one count of indecent liberties with a child. Both of the charges are felonies.

Giroux is accused of messaging a 15-year-old on Instagram with the intention of meeting up “for the purpose of committing the unlawful sex act.” Giroux was 35 at the time, and the offense is said to have happened on Aug. 13.

Giroux was arrested on Friday after SBI followed up on a request from Caswell County Sheriff”s Office from July 29. He received a $100,000 secured bond.

According to the warrants, the complainant listed on the warrant is an officer with the State Bureau of Investigation Administrative Services Division.

Burlington Police Department confirmed that Giroux worked for their agency but was fired in July 2022.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office says the case was taken over by SBI.
