An area of high pressure is causing a heat dome across the southeast, with temperatures topping out in the lower- to mid-90s in the Piedmont today.

In the Triad, highs will reach the lower-90s with heat indices between 96° and 97°.  We will have partly cloudy skies by this afternoon, and a slim, 20% chance of a stray shower.

The UV index is 9 out of 11.

Tonight, skies remain mostly clear with lows near 70°.

Hotter, summery weather sticks around through Thursday as highs reach the mid-90s with heat indices approaching 100°.

As for sky conditions, we’ll be sunny on Wednesday and then scattered clouds develop on Thursday.

Rain chances at that point will start to go up because there is a cold front forecast to clip northeastern NC.

There is a 25% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms Thursday, then the rain chance increases to 80% Thursday night.

Friday’s highs will be back in the upper-80’s with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Another cold front will be working its way across the Piedmont this weekend, and we’ll keep rain chances at 50% on both days.  Highs are going to be consistently in the upper-80’s.

Labor Day is looking great so far, with highs in the mid-70s under partly cloudy skies!
