ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) – 4,000 people are expected to visit Asheboro this Labor Day weekend from several different states for the Fusion Soccer Tournament.

It’s one of the first big events they’ve been fully open for, so they’re hoping to show off.

“We gotta make sure all the grass is mowed. This complex is over 80 acres, and there’s a lot of sidewalks to trim up,” Cone Health Zoo City Sportsplex Manager Ryan McCoy said.

Soon the parking lots and bleachers will be filled with people from Georgia, South Carolina and all across North Carolina.

“With Asheboro being not a huge city, it kind of has that small town feel … This being a brand new facility, I think it’s exciting for the people from this community and in this area. I think they’re really looking forward to seeing how not only this weekend goes but future tournaments,” McCoy said.

After a long day of playing, David’s Restaurant will be ready to feed people.

“Come and try David’s. We have delicious food. Our staff is very friendly … Our food is all basically made from scratch,” General Manager of David’s Restaurant Maria Garcia said.

David’s kitchen has been preparing to see new faces and serve fresh food.

“Since Thursday, Aug. 29,  we have the people in the back working to make a little bit extra so we have everything ready for this weekend,” Garcia said.

Garcia added several people to the schedule, so people aren’t waiting for food.

“We want people to feel like they’re at home,” Garcia said.

The sportsplex is warning people there will be heavier traffic in the area.
