Temperature drop could create ‘false fall’ in Piedmont Triad next week

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A nice, quiet day in the Triad to start off the holiday weekend. Temperatures in the 70s after 8 p.m. Saturday evening with mostly cloudy skies overnight.

We’ll wake up Sunday morning to partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 70s. Afternoon temperatures reach the mid-80s before a line of storms moves in and cools us down. Our rain/storm chances will increase into the afternoon and evening hours. A few strong to severe storms will be possible Sunday afternoon mainly between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. The main threats with any of the stronger storms will be damaging winds, lightning and heavy rainfall.

While storms will linger into the early overnight hours Sunday into Monday, a few showers will also remain possible Monday morning. However, temperatures will be in the upper 60s and highs will reach the low 80s with partly cloudy skies.

A mix of sun and clouds Tuesday with temperatures on a cooler trend thanks to Sunday’s cold front. We’ll be in the low 60s in the morning with highs in the mid-70s. Humidity will also be lower and winds will be out of the northeast.

Partly cloudy skies again Wednesday with morning temperatures in the upper 50s and highs in the mid-70s. We’ll continue to feel like a false fall again through the end of the work week.

Thursday and Friday will bring morning temperatures in the low-60s and highs in the mid-70s with partly cloudy skies. Isolated rain chances also return to the forecast both days with a 30% chance or less for rain/storms.

Partly cloudy skies and isolated rain/storm chances again on Saturday with morning temperatures in the mid-60s and highs reaching the upper 70s.
