Falling crane at South Carolina construction site kills 19-year-old, authorities say

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 19-year-old man was identified Wednesday as the person killed by a crane collapse inside a Little River subdivision.

Anibal Sanchez Pelayo of Galivants Ferry died at the scene of multiple traumatic injuries, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon along Cambria Court in the Bridgewater community just off Highway 9. Authorities said a crane collapsed onto a home that was under construction.

The Horry County Police Department and federal Operational Health and Safety Administration are investigating, Willard said.

Neighbors told News13 they watched the crane fall and then heard a loud crash as the crane smashed through the home. They said it took about 10 minutes for authorities to arrive.

Police remained at the scene until about 5 p.m.
