Juvenile wanted in murder of woman in North Carolina; seen at several high schools

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Raleigh Police Department and Wake County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a juvenile murder suspect believed to be involved in the homicide of a woman near Wendell in late June.

Syncere Pigford is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Serenity Spencer, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. A secure custody order for Pigford was filed by the sheriff’s office on Wednesday.

On Thursday, officials announced that Pigford had been seen at multiple high schools in Raleigh over the past two days. Following these sightings, law enforcement has been unable to locate him.

Officials said Raleigh police will work with the sheriff’s office and the Wake County school system to increase security at all high schools in Raleigh.

Spencer was found with a gunshot wound in the 7000 block of Hodge Road on the evening of June 30. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital the following morning.

Pigford is the third suspect charged in Spencer’s murder and the only one currently at large. Brothers Xavier and Kahlil Atkinson were taken into custody on Tuesday after being charged with first-degree murder in Spencer’s death.

Anyone who sees Pigford is asked to call 911 immediately.
