ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — Robeson County authorities are searching for a Lumberton teen they’ve charged with murder in connection with a body found along a road on Thursday.

Kameron Carter, 17, is wanted in connection with the death of Damian C. Chavis, 18, of Scotland County. Carter is charged with first-degree murder.

Chavis’s body was found lying in the roadway along the 3500 block of East 7th Street Road.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said a 2023 state law lifting privacy restrictions for juveniles in certain circumstances is being applied to Carter.

“In this case, we are allowed to release his name and a picture and any information as to a potential threat the teen may be, but only when exigent circumstances arise to the level to secure a juvenile petition for his arrest,” he said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation.

Anyone with information on Carter’s whereabouts or the case is asked to call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 671-3170 or (910) 671-3100.
