GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A 26-year-old was killed in a weekend shooting.

As of Monday, no arrests have been made. A former football player at Clemson University and a graduate of Page High School, Diondre Overton, was shot while at a party at a rental house.

The person responsible for the rental says the people arrived on Friday evening and told him that it would just be a girl’s weekend for a few people. By about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the manager of the property noticed too many people at the house and called law enforcement.

While deputies were on the way, they got a call about someone being shot. When deputies arrived, they found Overton with gunshot injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives have not released information about any suspects or arrests in the case.

Neighbors tell FOX8 that large crowds get out of control too often.

“Nobody is really helping us do anything. We have called the cops. We’ve seen this coming from a mile away, and it is terrible that a murder has to take place to get eyes on this. It is really unfortunate that our calls haven’t been headed before now,” said John, who lives in the neighborhood.

John told FOX8 that large parties happen about once a month.

The manager of the rental property said the issue is people lie about their plans when they book. In this case, as soon as he realized it was a planned party, he called law enforcement, but by the time deputies arrived, it was too late.

The City of Greensboro recently added new regulations for short-term rentals to crack down on these issues. However, the property is just outside of city limits, and it does not apply here.

FOX8 spoke with Guilford County Board of Commissioner’s Chair Skip Alston who said there is not a similar program in place at the county.

He said this has not been an issue in the past, but one incident like this is too many, and it could be a discussion for the county in the future.
