New entertainment options coming to downtown High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Downtown High Point will soon be home to a new development that hopes to add to the entertainment atmosphere in that area of the city.

The mixed-use project will be located across the street from Truist Point Stadium.

They want it to serve as an epicenter for social gaming and dining entertainment in downtown High Point.

“We want to bring something to … downtown High Point to give people something to do … We’re bringing another awesome piece to bring people to High Point. Not just people that live here but people … all around the Carolina core as well,” HP Ventures Manager Mark Penley said.

HP Ventures wants to bring fun for all ages to downtown High Point with its mixed-use development on Lindsay Street.

One of its main attractions will be a restaurant named Smitty and Pearl’s. The development will also have several entertainment options.

“The restaurant’s going to be a great space,” Penley said. “There’s going to be … a cool Tiki sports bar, duckpin bowling. We’re going to have a cool arcade. A VR arena as well.”

The location is across the street from Truist Point Stadium in the Catalyst Social District. It’s an area downtown that the city has targeted with the hope of seeing more growth and development.

“The original plan around the building of the stadium was to create $100 million of investment over a ten-year period, and what we found is that in less than half that time, we were able to do more than double that, and so it’s nice to see that people are buying into High Point, wanting to be here,” City of High Point Managing Director Jeron Hollis said.

Since 2017, the city has seen a $360 million tax base increase in the Catalyst District.

Business High Point Chamber of Commerce expects it to further increase other developers’ interest in downtown.

“I think just this recent announcement of this development over on Lindsey Street … adds to the excitement that’s already happening here in High Point. I think it’s just a testament to the true alignment that’s happening here in High Point with all the partners … public and private,” Business High Point President and CEO Rachel Collins said.

The mixed-use development will bring 75 new jobs to downtown High Point.

“That’s going to bring 75 new jobs just across the street from Congdon Yards. Here on this campus alone, there are over 400 employees that are part of this campus that have 50 businesses, and so we know that if we can continue to create the critical mass, that is where the economic dollars keep getting … pumped into our economy and will continue the growth,” Collins said.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the development on Oct. 4. Soon after, construction will be in full swing. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
