    Pedestrian fatally struck by Amtrak train in North Carolina

    CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — The Cary Police Department is continuing the investigation of a fatal collision between a train and a pedestrian late Wednesday night, according to a police spokesperson.

    Amtrak confirmed that Amtrak Train 78 was traveling from Charlotte to Raleigh around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday when a man who was trespassing on the track was hit by the train as it was approaching the Cary Amtrak Station.

    The police confirmed the unidentified male died from his injuries following the collision.

    A CBS 17 crew also saw Cary fire vehicles responding to a scene near train tracks on Balaji Place near Chapel Hill Road.

    According to Amtrak, none of the 28 passengers and crew onboard were injured. Amtrak continues in its statement that they are working with law enforcement to investigate the incident.
