There have been some changes to our rainfall outlook for the next seven days… and the forecast is much drier.

First, we have scattered showers around this morning that will bring wetter conditions to the Piedmont for the early commute.

Rain chances are going to hover between 20% and 30% for most of the day, and between showers, we’ll have some pleasant peeks of sunshine.  Highs are going to climb to the mid-70s.

High pressure is going to nose down the East Coast, bringing us a break from showers by this evening and overnight.  FOX8 High School Football Frenzy weather is looking great, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the lower-70’s through game time.

Lows will dip into the mid-60s.

Over the weekend, we’ll have a skinny, 20% chance of showers Saturday and Sunday.

There is a decent chance of some sunshine warming us to near 80° Saturday afternoon, and Sunday is forecast to be variably cloudy as well with highs in the upper-70s on Sunday.

As the new work week begins, the interaction between a New England high and an Atlantic low will be a big influence on our local forecast.

The high is going to act as a blocker initially, keeping the low from making much progress into the Carolinas for the weekend, but it is expected to weaken midweek.  By Tuesday the low, located to our southeast, is forecast to move toward the northeastern section of NC and continue inland into VA Tuesday and Wednesday.

The heaviest rain will be along the northeastern sections of NC and eastern VA while the Piedmont is forecast to have much lower rainfall totals, likely 1/2″ or less, over the 48 hour period.  Highs Monday through Wednesday will be in the mid- to upper-70s.

Partly cloudy skies return Thursday, boosting temperatures back to near 80°.
