DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been charged after several dogs were found neglected in the Piedmont Triad.

According to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, they executed a search warrant on Sept. 13 at a Mocksville home, were they located 11 emaciated “Chihuahua type dogs.”

One dog needed immediate emergency medical treatment and the others were taken to the Davie County Animal Shelter.

The sheriff’s office says they have issued warrants for arrest for Nathan Lee Tanner, 30, of Mocksville. The warrants are for one felony count of cruelty to animals and 10 misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. He was charged late Saturday afternoon.

“Donations are appreciated especially canned dog food to help in getting the dogs back to a healthy weight. Monetary donations may also be sent in to help with vet bills to Davie County Animal Shelter,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Davie County Animal Shelter posted on their Facebook , writing “We recently took in 11 small breed dogs from a cruelty case. They are all very sick and will be in care for a while before they will be available for adoption. Even having been through what they have, they are all loving, friendly dogs. We would greatly appreciate donations of canned dog food. They all need to gain weight and canned food is the easiest for them to accept. Any brand, as long as it is canned, they are chowing down on everything,” and thanking people for their support.

Tanner was given no bond due to other charges in other counties, according to Davie County Sheriff’s Office.
