CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — An arrest has been made in connection to the murder of a former Charlotte radio personality who was found dead inside his vehicle last week in Davie County, North Carolina.

WBT Radio and Radio One confirmed with Queen City News that Warren ‘Doug’ Maxwell, 62, who served as a traffic reporter, is the victim in a Sept. 11, 2024, murder investigation.

According to Radio One, Maxwell left the station in 2015. “We remember him fondly here in the newsroom. He had a crazy sense of humor and on the air, he had a velvety smooth voice,” a spokesperson with Radio One said Monday. “He loved radio but also had a knack for selling and when he left here, began selling office furniture which he really seemed to enjoy.”

Deputies responded to 911 calls regarding the incident around 8:15 a.m. last Wednesday on Underpass Road in Advance, North Carolina.

Maxwell’s body was found inside a vehicle at the residence of his address. Isidro Rivera Aguero, Jr., 29, who the sheriff’s office said is listed under the same address, was arrested a short time later and charged with Maxwell’s murder.

He is being held without bond at the Davie County Detention Center.

Radio One confirmed Mr. Maxwell worked through an ownership change and that the station is currently under new ownership. WBT Radio Program Director Mike Schaefer released the following statement.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of former WBT and WLNK Traffic Reporter Doug Maxwell.  Our prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
