WATCH: Body cam footage shows arrest of man charged in Donald Trump assassination attempt

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (WGHP) — Video shared by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office shows the moment a man accused of trying to assassinate a former president was taken into custody.

The video, shared on social media by the sheriff’s office, shows law enforcement officials arresting Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, formerly of Greensboro , after he is accused of spending hours near a Trump-owned golf course with an AK-47 in what law enforcement call an apparent assassination attempt.

Federal warrants filed on Monday state that Routh waiting near the golf course with a gun and multiple other items from roughly 2 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. when Secret Service were alerted to his presence.

Routh, a Guilford County native, had moved to Hawaii in recent months (and according to Associated Press had previously lived there around 2018, as well), was described by Greensboro neighbors, saying “ a lot of people were afraid of him back in the day ” but that their most recent interaction in May seemed normal.
