(WGHP) — Due to Tropical Cyclone Helene, the Piedmont is under multiple flood and wind advisories.

Rain and wind in the Piedmont will increase as Hurricane Helene makes landfall across the panhandle of Florida. By Friday morning, the Piedmont could have gusts around 40 mph. Also by sunrise Friday, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely. From Friday morning through lunchtime Friday, rain will be heavy at times, and we could have wind gusts up to 45 mph. Friday morning will also carry a chance for brief, spin-up tornadoes. Flooding is possible in the Piedmont. In the mountains, significant flooding is likely along with possible landslides.

Our rain and thunderstorm chances, along with our winds and tornado threat, will fall during the day Friday as the remnants of Helene weaken over Kentucky and Tennessee. The highest rain totals will be across the mountains where some locations could get over a foot of rain. On average, one to as much as three inches of rain is possible across the Triad. The foothill communities could see three to six inches of rain by the time the storm ends on Friday evening.

Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs around 80 degrees.

On Sunday, what could be described as the remnants of Helene will leave Kentucky/Tennessee and move into the Piedmont. A few scattered showers are possible with highs in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 40%.

Some leftover showers are possible on Monday with highs in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 40%.

It will be partly cloudy on Tuesday with highs in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 20%.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s.

The sun will continue to shine on Thursday with lows in the upper 50s and highs in the middle 70s.
