    Over a dozen RDU flights canceled as Hurricane Helene makes landfall

    MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region late Thursday night as a powerful Category 4, but the effects of the large storm will impact travelers in several areas Friday, including at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

    By late Thursday night, over a dozen Friday flights to or from RDU were already canceled, according to the airport’s website .

    Helene weakens to tropical storm; tornado, flooding threat still present in the Carolinas

    As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, the number of canceled flights total 15 inbound and 14 outbound ones.

    The majority of the cancellations are on American Airlines or Frontier Airlines, with multiple flights between or from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Orlando International Airport affected. Some Friday flights between RDU and Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Boston, New York and Philadelphia have also been canceled as of late Thursday.

    Travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines to get the latest flight status updates.
