    1 killed as tree falls on moving car in Yadkin County

    YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — One person was killed Friday morning after a tree fell on their car while they were driving, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed.

    Around 8:15 a.m., NCSHP responded to a single-car crash on Old US-421.

    A 2006 Nissan passenger car was traveling east when a large oak tree fell from the westbound shoulder across the roadway, landing on top of the Nissan.

    The driver, Todd Joseph Proffitt, 57, of Hamptonville, died at the scene.

    No further information is available at this time.

    Triming big trees should be a responsibility of the municipality we need to prevent more deadly accidents and power loses due to the trees overgrown to become hazardous to the public.
