ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A tornado struck Rockingham County during the severe weather brought on by Helene on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornado cut a 50-yard-wide path across about a third of a mile. It ended about 4.8 miles east of Stoneville at 3:27 p.m. Peak winds were estimated at 90 to 95 mph.

No one was reported injured, but the tornado did damage four metal structures and ripped off roofing. It also knocked over a few hardwood trees and tore solar paneling off of a home.

“The NWS Blacksburg would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Rockingham County Emergency Management Service for their assistance with this damage survey,” NWS Blacksburg said in a statement.

A FOX8 viewer from Stoneville shared with us a video of what appears to be a tornado forming on Friday taken in the area where the EF-1 tornado struck.
