    Norwayne Middle School student killed in crash identified

    CANAAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a Norwayne Middle School student was killed and four other students were injured in a crash Friday afternoon.

    State troopers responded to the crash around 4:14 p.m. in Canaan Township of Wayne County.

    According to investigators, a 2007 Honda Civic was heading north on Canaan Center Road when the Honda lost control, hitting a ditch and two landscape islands before flipping over several times.

    One of the passengers, identified as 14-year-old Aurora Krahenbuhl, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The driver, 17, was taken to Wooster Community Hospital with minor injuries.

    According to OSHP, there were three other passengers injured in the crash.

    A 15-year-old was taken to Wooster Community Hospital, then flown to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

    A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old were taken to Lodi Hospital and Cleveland Clinic – Medina Hospital for minor injuries.

    The Village of Creston Police Department shared a letter sent to parents on its Facebook page , confirming the crash involved five high school and middle school students from the district.

    Friday night’s homecoming game between the Norwayne Bobcats and the Chippewa Chipps was canceled in light of the accident.

    Chippewa Local Schools made the announcement on Facebook, saying, “Our hearts are with the Norwayne Local Schools community.”

    Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
