    Department of Labor confirms investigation into workplace death in Wilkes County

    NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Officials are investigating after a worker died at a Piedmont Triad workplace.

    The Department of Labor confirmed that they are investigating after an employee died while at work at High Country Lumber & Mulch in North Wilkesboro.

    On Monday, they said that “N.C. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division has been notified of this fatality and has opened an inspection.”

    Meredith Watson, public information officer for the N.C. Department of Labor, told the Wilkes Journal-Patriot on Tuesday , that the “fatality was reported to us yesterday and we are opening an inspection. As reported to us, the victim was crushed by a piece of machinery. We are unable to provide the victim’s name.”

    No further details were immediately available.
