PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — High pressure will be working its way through North Carolina today, making our skies clear and our winds calmer.

Enjoy sunny skies with highs near 70° this afternoon. We will have perfect football weather for FOX8 High School Football Frenzy tonight! Skies stay clear, and temperatures will slip through the 50’s during area games.

Over the weekend, the area of high pressure that is dominating our weather will move into southern GA. This is going to produce a southwest breeze that will warm us to the upper-70’s on Saturday, and near 80° on Sunday. It will remain sunny through the weekend.

A cold front crosses the Piedmont on Monday, and that will be the beginning of the coolest weather of the season. Highs on Monday will slip back to 70°, then highs are going to settle into the lower-to-mid-60 Tuesday through Thursday.

More importantly, overnight lows will be dipping into the upper-30s Wednesday and Thursday mornings in the Triad, which means lows will be close to freezing in smaller communities to the north and west.

Lows may reach the 20s in the North Carolina mountains midweek.  While the forecast remains dry through Thursday, we will see skies become partly cloudy on Tuesday. Otherwise, conditions are going to stay sunny.
