TAMPA, Fla. ( WFLA ) — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean.

As of the NHC’s Sunday morning update, the system has a 30% chance of development as it moves westward or southwestward across the tropical Atlantic over the next seven days.

Located a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, the system is forecasted to move into an environment less conducive for development over the next few days.

However, as it continues to move west in the western tropical Atlantic, it may move into an area more conducive to development by the middle of the week.

The wave will continue to be monitored over the next 10 days as development could increase next weekend.

It’s unclear what, if any, impact the storm could have on Florida, which has already been battered by two hurricanes — Helene and Milton — in the last month.
