RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – Two firefighters in Hoke County are facing embezzlement charges after being accused of stealing funds from their fire department, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, investigators received a report on Tuesday from a representative of the North Raeford Fire Department regarding credit card fraud and employee theft.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office identified two firefighters who “inappropriately used department funding for their own personal use,” a news release from the sheriff’s office stated.

Johnny Alexander Baker Jr. and David Christopher Bolton were arrested and charged with one count of embezzlement and one count of larceny by an employee.

Baker Jr. was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond, while Bolton was bonded out at $5,000.

“Investigation is ongoing at this time,” the news release stated.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Sgt. Spence with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 875-5111.
