Gas station employee accused of killing woman in North Carolina shooting

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Durham police have made an arrest in a deadly shooting at a gas station near downtown late Sunday night.

34-year-old Chaquila Little was identified as the victim of the shooting by Durham police.

Police said the incident happened just before midnight. They responded near 900 Fayetteville Street outside the Citgo gas station and Jack’s In and Out Mart, where they discovered Little suffering from gunshot wounds.

Several witnesses said Little was shot six times at point-blank range near the front door of the gas station. She was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead a short time later, according to Durham police.

30-year-old Braham Pugh was arrested in connection with the shooting, according to Durham police. Customers and witnesses said Pugh was an employee at the gas station, but the store manager said he wasn’t working at the time of the shooting.

Nearby business owners said they’re concerned about the frequency of similar incidents in the area. In June, a three-year-old boy was shot at a Walgreens on Fayetteville Street and another woman was shot just a few feet away in a grass lot.

Following Sunday night’s shooting, at least 26 people have been killed in Durham this year. At least 185 people have been shot, including at least 29 women.
