After years of anticipation for Robbins Hardware, the wait is over. Robbins Hardware opened in June after seven years of construction. When brothers and owners Darrell Lee Upchurch and Johnny Upchurch began this adventure, the building at 111 Salisbury Street was condemned. “The entire building had to be gutted,” said Darell.
Peach Festival
This year the North Carolina Peach Festival in Candor boasted a cooking contest, Aberdeen Carolina & Western railroad train rides, music, a gaming trailer, food stands, crafts, homemade peach ice cream, a petting zoo, inflatables, a parade and much more. Historical Association Dedicates the Kenneth Black Cemetery
The Moore County Historical Association hosted a dedication of the Kenneth Black Cemetery, in Southern Pines, on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. The date coincided with the 243rd anniversary of the Loyalist’s death during the American Revolutionary War. Members of the Black family, and local officials, including former Mayor Carol Haney and Southern Pines Mayor Taylor Clement, attended. Historian Andrew Diemer presented a short lecture on the Tory War of 1781, and descendant children of Kenneth Black laid a wreath at his grave, pictured below. A bagpiper performed at the ceremony, in addition to the firing of a traditional musket.

A huge residential development in Moore County is set to add more than 100 new homes. As part of an internal purchase, Armstrong Legacy Development LLC acquired from Armstrong Timber Management LLC nearly 38 acres off U.S. Highway 15-501 south of Aberdeen for roughly $2 million on July 15, according to Moore County deed records.
