DMV offices in North Carolina are closed today (July 19) due to the massive CrowdStrike disruption causing global computer problems.

As reported by ABC11 , employees for at least some of the DMV offices were sent home for the day. DMV plans to reach out to customers to reschedule appointments as well.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation issued the following message on X (formerly Twitter) this morning.

All #NCDMV Driver License offices and License Plate Agencies are unable to assist customers this morning due to the current global Microsoft and CrowdStrike outage. NCDMV is monitoring the situation along with NCDIT and will resume service once the global outage has been repaired.

Local hospital systems (including Duke Health, UNC Health and Cape Fear Valley Health) were also affected. However, they are still able to provide essential care to their patients.

Wake County Government issued a statement, saying that the outage has affected some of their computers. They have activated their Emergency Operations Center at a level 3 in response.

The City of Raleigh also posted their statement on X:

Some City services are affected by the global Windows issue. Our most essential services, including water and 911 dispatch, are operating. We are still evaluating the full impact on all city services. We’ll update our website and social media throughout the day.

In a later tweet , the city added that their external service for permits are down, and they are working with an external vendor to get it repaired.

Sounds like crowdstrike is too big and massive at this point when something happens the it's disruption affects a wide range of needed services from city operations to air transportation to Healthcare. Should we be afraid?I am.I don't believe they have the intelligence to ensure this never happens again.
