Middlesex DA's Office says two recent Framingham deaths are still being investigated

FRAMINGHAM The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has officially ruled the death of a Framingham man whose body was found in April as a homicide but has not determined the cause of death for a second man whose body was found separately just days earlier.

According to the Framingham City Clerk's Office , the medical examiner's office has ruled that the cause of death for Anthony Junior Lopez, whose body was found April 20, is multiple sharp and blunt force injuries and the manner of death is homicide, according to an updated death certificate filed with the city.

The cause and manner of death for Brooks Hood, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, whose body was found April 10, is listed as pending.

Both deaths continue to be investigated, according to a spokeswoman from the Middlesex District Attorney's Office .

"Since the time of these incidents, police have made some progress and have determined that these deaths are not related and they are both isolated incidents," DA spokeswoman Meghan Kelly said. "Investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety."

Hood, 27, was found inside a Fenwick Street home. Authorities did not say how he is suspected of dying or how long he was dead when found. His family lists his date of death as April 8.

Kelly said Hood's death is being investigated as "suspicious."

Framingham man, 30, was working at Shoppers World the night he was found dead

Lopez, 30, was found dead with obvious injuries in an area reserved for trash disposal at Shoppers World . He was an employee of Hot Table, a sandwich shop, and was working that night.

An employee of the City Clerk's Office said it is not uncommon for a death certificate to be filed before a cause and manner are determined by the medical examiner and the status can be changed at a later date.

Last week, Framingham police officers and firefighters , along with Massachusetts State Police , were conducting some kind of search of the water at Simpson Park, which is less than a mile from Fenwick Street. Both Framingham police and the District Attorney's Office said the search was "part of an open investigation," but would not say whether it was connected to either of the April deaths.

"Police and prosecutors assigned to these cases have continued to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounded the deaths of both these men," Kelly said. "In both cases, investigators have conducted multiple interviews, done an extensive canvas of the neighborhood and identified and reviewed video surveillance from both businesses and personal residences. Forensic evidence is also being tested in connection with the death of Brooks Hood."

Investigators ask anyone with any information no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to call Framingham police at 508-532-5923.
