John C. Macko, 80, former Framingham Union Nurse….
John Charles Macko, 80, of Hopkinton, died peacefully at his home on December 17, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lynn, MA on March 14, 1943. John spent his early years growing up in Beverly and received an engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and later received a master’s degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He had a 20-year career in engineering and business at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. At the age of 45, John became a registered nurse and had a 22-year career as a med surg nurse at Framingham Union Hospital, retiring from nursing in 2011. He lived in Framingham for 30 years, moving to Hopkinton in 2016. John loved to travel, sail, ski, and garden, and was an avid reader, especially history; but his favorite activity was being an amazing uncle to all his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He preferred to always be called “Uncle John” by everyone. John had a special bond with his men’s group for 33 years.

Waclaw Gicka, 96, Army Veteran and longtime Framingham resident
Waclaw Gicka, 96, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Saturday, December 16, 2023. He was born in LeCreusot France to Jan and Marie Gicka on September 28, 1927. After serving in the French Army he came to this country and fell in love. Waclaw wanted to become a citizen so he enlisted in the US Army. Just before entering the military, he met the love of his life, Norma. He served 2 years and came home an American Citizen to marry Norma in 1955 and they truly were sweethearts for life.
Meet Pam Richards of MetroWest Medical Center
Pam Richards, RN, has been with MetroWest Medical Center Leonard Morse Hospital for nearly two years. What Pam likes most about her job is feeling that she has made a difference in someone’s life. She is motivated by helping people. She says, “There is more happiness in giving.” The best part of Pam’s career as nurse is seeing people discharged in a better place than when they arrived at the hospital. Her most memorable experience while working at MetroWest is playing ball with the children on the CDU. In her spare time, Pam is an enthusiast of outside activities such as mountain climbing, bike riding, going to the beach, walking her dog, kayaking, camping, and spending time with her family.
