Betty Kraft – 87
Betty Lyon Kraft, age 87, formerly of Framingham, MA, died peacefully at her home in Media, PA on December 29, 2023 from complications of lung cancer. Betty had a generosity of spirit and concern for the well-being of all people, evidenced by her deep interest in issues of social justice, lifelong friendships, and warm relationships with friends and caregivers at the continuing care community where she lived since 2018. Her intellectual curiosity drove her to continually expand her knowledge of any new or unfamiliar topic. She was a voracious reader and played bridge and other card games until shortly before her death.

Maple Syrup Festival
Natick Community Organic Farm, 117 Eliot Street, Natick. Celebrate the sap rising in the trees and the start of spring! Meet at the Natick Community Organic Farm and learn about tapping maple trees to make maple syrup, both the modern and ancient Native American methods. Visit the animals, do an art project, take a meditative walk in the woods, and explore the Jewish values related to all these activities. MassBay Partners with Hope & Comfort to Provide Basic Hygiene Products to Students
According to Needham-based non-profit Hope & Comfort, one out of three people in Massachusetts are facing hygiene poverty, or the inability to afford everyday hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant. This year MassBay Community College and Hope & Comfort celebrate their fourth year of partnership to provide free access to basic hygiene products to MassBay students who are facing hygiene insecurity. The collaboration provides students with free and easy access to basic hygiene products throughout the College’s three campuses.

Jurand Wladyslaw Janus, 82, longtime Framingham resident, UMass Medical Researcher
Jurand was born in Zygodowice, Poland on April 8, 1941 and passed away on January 16, 2024 in Westborough, Massachusetts. Jurand spent his formative years in Wadowice and graduated from the Teacher’s College in Krakow. After many years teaching in Dzierzoniow and Bielawa, he emigrated to the U.S. with his family. He worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in Oklahoma and eventually retired as a researcher from the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Each winter, slip and fall accidents cause serious injuries. Even when surfaces do not look especially icy or slippery, it is very possible that a thin sheet of transparent ice or “Black Ice” is covering your pathway putting you at risk. When you approach a footpath or roadway that appears to be covered with ice or snow, always use extreme caution. Many slips and falls happen in places people regard as safe and secure, typically outside their front door, on the doorstep, on the path or while getting out of the car.

Kathy has been with Tenet for almost 5 years in marketing while supporting Saint Vincent Medical Group and MetroWest Physician Services, and we are pleased to now have her on the hospital side to lead marketing for Saint Vincent Hospital and MetroWest Medical Center. Outside of work, Kathy is very involved in our community and is part of the Steering Board for the Greater Worcester Community Improvement Plan.
