Sister Mary T. Cahill, CSJ, (Sister St. Timothy), in her 77th year as a beloved member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston, died Saturday, April 6, 2024. Devoted daughter of the late Timothy J. and Mary J. (Hegarty) Cahill, and beloved sister of the late William J. and Maurice R. (Bob) Cahill. Sister Mary is survived by her loving sister, Ann Marie Cahill, and brother, John Timothy Cahill and his wife, Virginia, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandniece, great grandnephews, and her Sisters in the Congregation. Formerly missioned as a teacher at St. Anthony School, Allston and Holy Family School, Rockland. Sister Mary also served as parish minister at San Ricardo Parish, Peru; St. Mary Parish, Roxbury for over 16 years; and as pastoral minister at Pine Street Inn-Women’s Unit, Boston.

James (Jim, Marty, or Tapa) Francis Martin Jr., 85, a longtime resident of Holliston, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 6, 2024. A day after the Great New England Hurricane of 1938, Jim was born in Brighton, Massachusetts, the son of James F. Martin and Margaret (Daley) Martin. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Alyce (Dandaneau) Martin.

Cecelia “Ceil” Leonora (Kakowski) Downey
Cecelia “Ceil” Leonora (Kakowski) Downey, age 99, passed away peacefully at her home in Framingham, MA, on April 3rd, 2024. The daughter of William and Mary Ann (Ramutkowski) Kakowski, Ceil grew up on River Street in Thomaston, CT, and graduated from Thomaston High School in 1942; she completed a secretarial degree at Post Junior College. Despite the hardships of the Depression and World War II, Ceil had fond memories of her childhood, many of which centered around the musicianship of her family; Ceil’s father led a popular polka band in which her brother Ed played clarinet and saxophone, and she and her sisters went dancing every Saturday night at the dance hall on Chapel Street.

MassBay to Hold Spring Open House
MassBay Community College will hold its annual Spring Open House on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on its Wellesley Hills campus. The Spring Open House is an opportunity for prospective students to talk with current students, faculty, and staff to learn about the 70 degree and certificate programs offered at MassBay. Participants will learn how to pay for college, including a financial aid session and discussion about available scholarships and the MassReconnect program (free community college for students who are 25 and older). Additional topics include how MassBay credits transfer to bachelor’s degree programs, free academic support services, information for veterans, free resources available on campus such as emergency grants and free food, information about free mental health counseling, and more. The Open House will feature a self-guided tour of campus and on-the-spot-admissions where staff will help you start the process of enrolling for college.
