In-Depth: Rock4Reason uses music while fundraising for cancer support

(WKBN) – Rock4Reason is an organization that supports families in the Mahoning Valley who have been impacted by cancer and terminal illness.

Heather Lindsay says she helped start the organization in 2016. It was a dream of hers and her husband’s as well as their best friends Jen and Matt Dano.

The name of the organization comes from their love of music.

“Really kind of the main reason behind it is we all love music and Jen’s actually in a band,” said Lindsay.

But they also found that people talked about how healing music is, how soothing it is, and how sometimes it’s a good escape for them while they are going through chemo or radiation.

“And so we tried to put it in all of our events. We had some sort of musical theme around that, whether it’s live music or a DJ or something along those lines,” Lindsay said.

Dyanne Keller said she became involved as she was introduced to the organization while fundraising for her sister who was going through cancer treatments.

“They were expanding the organization and I ended up joining and I’ve been with them. This is my third year,” she said.

Lindsay says in 2023, they were able to help 109 families.

Rock4Reason has several events coming up, including its Rock ‘N Hop event set for July 20 at Modern Methods Brewing Co. in downtown Warren. There will be live music, raffle baskets, merchandise and more. The event is free, but $10 tasting tickets will get attendees beer samples and will benefit the organization.
