Franklin County crash injures two, one seriously, Thursday afternoon
An afternoon crash along I-85 in Franklin County has left two people with injuries, one life flighted to Gainesville with life-threatening conditions. Georgia State Patrol (GSP) responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 85 southbound just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, at mile marker 160 in Franklin County. Troopers from Post 52 (Hartwell) responded to find a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter passenger van was traveling behind a gray 2023 Freightliner tractor trailer in the right lane.

Man Wanted for Battery and Parole Violation Escapes After High-Speed Chase in Stephens County
On Friday night, August 30th, around 11:30 p.m., deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert from Franklin County regarding a white Chevrolet Tracker driven by a white male identified as Rocky Garrett. Garrett, 54, of Toccoa, was involved in a physical domestic dispute in Franklin County.
Lavonia PD Charge Man With Attempting to Scam Local Animal Rescue
A man who posed as a homeless veteran with his dog last month has been arrested in Lavonia. In July, volunteers with Hart County Animal Rescue were taken in by a man who said he was homeless and had left his dog tied up to a park bench in the hopes someone would help it.
Zero Tolerance for Drunk & Drugged Driving
Troopers from Georgia and South Carolina met in Hartwell this week for the annual Hands Across the Border event to show that both states have a zero-tolerance for drunk and drugged driving. Participating Georgia agencies included law enforcement from Georgia State Patrol, or GSP Posts 7 – Toccoa and 52 – Hartwell, along with officers and leadership from the Toccoa and Clayton Police Departments and the Habersham, Franklin and Hart County Sheriff Offices were in attendance.
