Members of the community came out to Barrett’s Landing Park on Saturday, June 22, amid notable heat to take part in the city of Franklin’s inaugural Juneteenth Celebration.

Franklin Vice Mayor Wynndolyn H. Copeland welcomed people to the event, which ran from noon to 5:30 p.m.

A’Risha Jones, Franklin’s director of tourism, was pleased with how the celebration proceeded.

“The city of Franklin’s first annual Juneteenth Celebration was amazing,” she said. “We were able to have a great time and tough out the heat.

“We had special performances by the Ezibu Muntu African Dance Company, spoken words from poets Jasmine Blooms, Zbey tha Poet, and Maurice Brown, musical performances by the CV Russell Jr. Ambassador Marching Band; Will Easley, national recording artist out of Pensacola, Florida; and the Soul Unlimited Band and Show, along with great food trucks and vendors.”

Jones added, “We are excited and looking forward to what next year will bring.”
