Someone may be on the verge of discarding a $150,000 Virginia Lottery prize. A Powerball ticket sold in Franklin won $150,000 in the Jan. 20 drawing, but no one has yet to claim the prize.

According to Virginia law, winning tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. As a result, the ticket will become void at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

The ticket was purchased at Park N Shop at 301 East 2nd Avenue in Franklin City. The winning numbers for that drawing were 16-31-34-47-65, with the Powerball number being 10. This ticket matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number. Ordinarily, this would result in a $50,000 prize. However, the buyer spent an extra dollar for Power Play®, tripling the prize to $150,000.

Unclaimed prizes, by law, go to Virginia’s Literary Fund, which provides low-interest loans for public school construction, renovations, and technology upgrades.

The Virginia Lottery urges the ticket holder to come forward immediately. The Lottery has eight customer service centers across Virginia where the ticket can be redeemed.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. The ticket was bought in Franklin, which received more than $1.5 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised over $867 million for K-12 education, comprising approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.

For general information or to play games online, visit the Virginia Lottery’s website or download the Lottery’s app. Connect with the Lottery on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube.

As with all gaming, please play responsibly.
