Nine individuals have tragically lost their lives, while another individual has been hospitalized after a passenger van collided with a semi-trailer truck in rural west-central Wisconsin on Saturday.

The van, traveling northbound on a county road, had nine occupants on board when it entered the intersection of Wisconsin State Hwy. 95 near Dewhurst Township.

This heartbreaking incident occurred approximately 150 miles southeast of Minneapolis and 200 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

The van crashed into the semi traveling eastbound on the state highway just before 8 a.m. on Friday, according to a statement from the Clark County, Wis., Sheriff's Department.

Following the collision, the semi came to a halt off the highway with its trailer overturned, while the van ended up on its side on the roadside.

Sources told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the van seemed to have sustained fire damage.

Eight passengers in the van, which included the driver, as well as the semi-truck driver, lost their lives following the collision.

A 2-year-old boy managed to survive when he was ejected from the van and subsequently rescued by a kind stranger who saw the vehicle swerve into the path of a semi-truck at an intersection, as per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The boy was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in nearby Marshfield, Wisconsin.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those involved as well as the first responders who worked quickly to provide support at the scene," Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers posted on X.
