In an incident in Indianapolis on Sunday morning, there was a tragic mass shooting that resulted in one fatality and injuries to an Indianapolis police officer and four other individuals.

The deceased victim arrived at Community East Hospital around 1:50 am, while the injured officer was reportedly in stable condition. The other four victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) stated that the incident initially began as a disturbance before escalating into a shooting in the parking lot of a bar on the east side of the city.

Two off-duty IMPD officers in uniform were present at the 11:11 Bar and Grille (formerly known as 'Fuzion Ultra Lounge') at 9449 E. Washington St. at approximately 1:30 am that day.

Located in a strip mall near the intersection of Washington Street and Mitthoefer Road close to Cumberland, the bar was the scene of a confrontation in the parking lot that led to an exchange of gunfire between the officers and at least one suspect, resulting in one officer being wounded.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and discovered that four more individuals had been shot.

These victims were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) released a list detailing the genders and ages of the individuals involved.

    • 33-year-old woman
    • 42-year-old man
    • 45-year-old man

News 8 acquired surveillance video from Supermarket De Mi Pais, showing the parking lot but not capturing the shooting incident. The footage revealed the sound of at least 20 gunshots.

The identity and age of the deceased man, who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, have not been disclosed.

Authorities have not confirmed any arrests or shared information about potential suspects. A handgun was discovered at the scene by law enforcement personnel.

All officers involved in the shooting incident have been put on administrative leave as a standard procedure.

During the incident, several officers activated their body cameras, capturing crucial footage.

In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, IMPD Chief Chris Bailey addressed the violent event.

Early this morning, I responded to an unnecessary and chaotic incident, where one of our officers was wounded by gunfire. I’m relieved to report that the officer is on the mend and in high spirits. He is ready to get home to his family and get back to serving our community as soon as he is able.
I am proud of the courage and bravery both officers displayed during this incident. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks our law enforcement officers face each day while working to keep our community safe.
I extend my deepest gratitude to all who responded to the scene to help during this critical incident, as well as to all the IMPD officers who are back at work today protecting and serving.
Please keep our officer, his family, our department, and all those who were impacted by this senseless violence in your thoughts.
In the coming days, weeks, and months, I ask that you stand by our officers and professional staff, offering support and encouragement during this challenging time.

If you have any information, please reach out to Detective Sergeant Michael Duke at the IMPD Homicide Office by calling 317-327-3475, or contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
