Pedestrian fatally struck near Hersheypark Stadium by Fredericksburg driver, police say

A 54-year-old pedestrian from New York was struck and killed by 29-year-old Fredericksburg driver at the intersection near Hersheypark Stadium early Friday morning, according to the Derry Township Police Department.

Around 12:45 a.m. July 26, police officers were dispatched to the area of Hersheypark Drive and Hotel Road for a pedestrian who had been struck by a Dodge Caravan.  On arrival, first responders and medical personnel who happened to be in the area at the time of the incident were attempting life-saving measures on Randy Ticknor, of Binghamton, New York, who had been struck.

"(Ticknor) succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene," police said in a release Friday.

Police identified Isaac Young, of Fredericksburg, as the driver of the Dodge Caravan that allegedly struck Ticknor. No charges have been filed as of Friday morning.

Hersheypark Stadium was hosting a concert featuring Def Leppard, Journey and the Steve Miller Band Thursday evening. Police did not say if Ticknor was leaving the concert at the time of the crash.

"The investigation is in the early stages and investigators are attempting to determine the circumstances involved in the crash," police said.

The Derry Township Police Department are being assisted by the Dauphin County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Dauphin County Coroner's Office.
