Washington St. to benefit the capital campaign fund to replace their current building. Families of the charter members are invited to the fundraiser at the post for a free meal, drink and auction items. The community is also invited to learn more about the VFW Post, the new facility plans and the charter members. Nimitz Rotary Club will serve hamburgers and chips, and the VFW will provide beer and soft drinks. Plans and renditions of the new building will be on display and VFW members will be there to answer questions. Post 7105 was founded in 1946 by Gillespie County veterans of World War II and is located in the original building that was built as Sunnyside Tavern in 1937. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> Family members are invited to bring photos and stories of their loved ones who served. The new building will expand the meeting hall to hold veteran events and activities and have a kitchen, library and small museum dedicated to the service of Gillespie County veterans. “The new post will also be a safe and welcoming facility for veterans and family members to gather,” said a VFW spokesman. “The VFW Post has served Gillespie County and its veterans over the years.” Post 7105 helped organize the World War I Centennial Parade and events in 2018, led the expansion of the War Memorial Monument in 2016, and raised $70,000 to send 64 veterans on two honor flights to Washington, D.C. in 2013 and 2016. The post also helped coordinate the French Legion of Honor Ceremony in 2015, in which the French Consulate honored 12 World War II veterans for their service on French soil. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> A second fundraiser is tentatively planned for Sept. 26.
