    Freight train derailed in Fredericksburg, officials say

    FREDERICKSBURG, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Fredericksburg Police Department said seven freight cars derailed in Fredericksburg Saturday night, striking a structure.

    In a post on the X platform , Fredericksburg Police said the derailment took place in the 400 block of Cobblestone Drive. According to police, seven cars derailed and hit a structure behind Cobblestone.

    According to the Fredericksburg Fire Department , the trains caused damage to approximately six garages at Cobblestone Square.

    As of 10:03 p.m., there were no known injuries or threats to the public, and police and fire crews were on the scene. No hazardous materials were on board.

    Police said the public should avoid the area as officials investigate.
