    Crews battle burning debris pile and toxic smoke at recycling plant near Frederickson

    Pierce County fire crews battled a large debris fire and heavy smoke at a recycling plant Friday.

    The fire began at 1:21 p.m. at Recycling Resources in the 13400 block of Canyon Road, north of Frederickson. There were several workers at the recycling plant at the time, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue .

    The public was asked to avoid the area because of the smoke and firefighting apparatus that was partially blocking Canyon Road. The smoke was reported to be toxic. Anyone in the area was asked to shut their windows and air conditioning units if they pull in outside air.

    There are no injuries and the cause is unknown, Central Pierce said. The blazed was reported to be under control by about 4 p.m.
