    Police nab suspect in Freeport car burglaries

    FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A 20-year-old Freeport man has been charged with burglary in a pair of car burglaries.

    According to Freeport Police, witnesses said a masked man was attempting to break into a garage in the 700 block of W. Chestnut Street around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

    Officers arriving on the scene arrested Joshua Heller after he was seen running from the area.

    Police said they discovered that Heller was responsible for two prior car burglaries, one in the 900 block of Monroe Drive and one in the 800 block of Jefferson Drive.

    He was charged with two counts of Burglary from a Motor Vehicle, Attempted Burglary to a Building, and Theft with a Prior Conviction.

    Heller was booked into the Stephenson County Jail awaiting the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
