Beryl’s punch weakened as it drew close
Concerns that Tropical Storm Beryl might dump heavy amounts of rain and cause flooding along I-45 that might affect Limestone and Freestone Counties apparently failed to materialize.A flood watch was in effect through early Tuesday morning, July 9, for most of eastern North and Central Texas after Beryl made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in South Texas near Houston Sunday night, according to Limestone County Emergency Management. Pageant Scholarship Winners: Freestone County Young Ladies Do Well at Miss Teen Texas Competition
Earning a spot as one of the 13 Semi-Finalists at the Miss Texas’ Teen 2024 was Miss Freestone County’s Teen 2022 and Miss Burleson’s Teen, Kenady Morris of Teague. In addition to making it to the Semi-Finals, Kenady earned several scholarships during the week-long event. Those include The Change Maker Scholarship, The What Love Can Do Scholarship, and The Live Like Katie Joe Vaughn Scholarship; each in the amount of $250.

Commissioners hear complaint about drag races near Cotton Gin
, , During the public comments portion of the Freestone County Commissioners Court’s June 20 meeting, county resident William Shelton spoke about a piece of property in Cotton Gin that was recently purchased by Texas House of Power, a company that hosts large-scale drag racing events. In the last 30 days, the company has hosted two of these events, Shelton said, with attendance approaching a thousand people each time.
