( KRON ) – A man was arrested for calling the Fremont Police Department dispatch center more than 200 times and hanging up shortly after the call connected, the department announced on social media.

Fremont police dispatch received more than 124 prank calls from a disconnected cell phone on June 24. The caller contacted Fremont PD continuously spanning multiple days, according to police. The department says there were more than 200 prank calls from the caller.

Due to the short time of the phone calls, police had difficulties locating where the phone calls were coming from. Following the police investigation, the department pinpointed the location of the caller, which was near Lake Elizabeth.

The suspect was identified as John George Triplette. He was arrested for annoying or harassing phone calls or communicating with 9-1-1.

Fremont PD reminds residents that the misuse of the 9-1-1 system can have serious consequences for the community, which includes delayed responses for people who are in need and hinders dispatcher and police officer response times.
