Sandlot' and 'Beetlejuice' movies coming to Fremont amphitheater

Variety of concerts, from blues to reggae, '80s to pop

Amphitheater events have been extended until September.

“There is a variety of performances and different kinds of music," said Kristie A. Bilger, executive director of Downtown Fremont Inc. "Some local bands are playing, and the city concert series has bands from Cleveland and other areas. I'm bringing in new groups, from blues to reggae to '80s music. I wanted to get a good mix of groups and expose the community to new music.”

The Paramount Movie Theater will host additional movie nights at the amphitheater. The second movie of the summer will be 9 p.m. Tuesday with “Sandlot."

Return of the ice cream shop chili dog

    Something great that I ate

After purchasing their ice cream shop on a whim in 2023, a year later Kari and Kip Krupp think they have captured the classic taste of the original coney sauce and are thrilled with the growth of the Dockside Dairy.

Dockside Dairy is a quick food and ice cream shop on Catawba Island near the Miller Ferry.

“This will be our first full season. The building and the ice cream shop have been here since the 1950s. Everybody knows it. It was started by Coach Cook. He was a local football coach and people love to talk about Coach Cook. We went back to the classic coney dogs and chicken sandwiches. That’s our food base,” Kari Krupp said. “We sell a lot of hot dogs and coney dogs here. We have a lot of people who take the ferry who stop. It’s definitely a staple for a lot of people, a must stop in the summer.”

I had their coney dog, and it measures up!

The onion rings also were great. I spoke with Kip about the wonders of fried vegetables, especially onions, and I realized there was an expert at the other end of that picnic table.

Dockside Dairy is at 4261 NW Catawba Road, Port Clinton.
