    Vote now in Messenger/Herald male athlete of millennium bracket

    In an effort to determine the top male athlete of this millennium with Messenger/Herald roots, we created a bracket.

    Please vote below to reduce the field to 16. The poll runs from 3 p.m. Monday to 3 p.m. July 26.

    The bracket will be cut in half each following week to ultimately identify one winner. We hope that nobody was left out with deserving credentials.

    (1) Charles Woodson, Fremont Ross — Woodson is in the NFL Hall of Fame.

    (32) Matt Zahel, Margaretta — He scored 1,000 points in his career.

    (2) Chris Bassitt, Genoa — He's a starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays.

    (31) Adam Thorbahn, Port Clinton — He collected 1,000 points for his career.

    (3) JD Bergman, Oak Harbor — He twice represented the United States at the World Wrestling Championships.

    (30) Jac Alexander, Oak Harbor — He scored 1,000 points in his career.

    (4) Mark Coleman, St. Joseph Central Catholic — He's in the UFC Hall of Fame.

    (29) Tyler Rosenberger, Woodmore — He collected 1,000 points for his career.

    (5) Tim Anderson, Clyde — He played in the NFL.

    (28) Ian Miller, Oak Harbor — He won a state crown on the mat.

    (6) Michael Deiter, Genoa — He plays in the NFL.

    (27) Hootie Cleveland, Old Fort — He collected 1,000 points for his career.

    (7) Bryan Smolinski, Genoa — He played in the NHL.

    (26) Kyle Nutter, Genoa — He had 6,000 yards rushing.

    (8) Aaron Opelt, Fremont Ross — He quarterbacked Toledo to a win over Michigan.

    (25) Derrick Vicars, Genoa — He twice qualified for the Olympic Trials in the shot put.

    (9) Alex Black, Gibsonburg — He pitched the Golden Bears to a state crown.

    (13) Jalen Santoro, Bellevue — He quarterbacked Bellevue to a state final.

    (20) Connor Smith, Gibsonburg — He scored 100 touchdowns.

    (14) Kevin Wammes, St. Joseph Central Catholic — He was player of the year in Division IV on the mound.

    (19) Matt Guhn, Clyde — He won a national championship on the mat as a junior for the Fliers.

    (15) Jared Martin, Clyde — He caught a touchdown pass for Cincinnati against Ohio State.

    (18) Noah Price, St. Joseph Central Catholic — He captured a state crown on the mat.

    (16) Greg Keys, Bellevue — He qualified to state in 10 events in three seasons.

    (17) Logan Meisler, Port Clinton — He had 182 hits in his career.
