The Sandusky County Share and Care nonprofit ministry, which uses revenues from its thrift stores to support county residents, has a new executive director.

Patti Powers, hired in June, was a development fundraiser at Easter Seals for 18 years and, more recently, served as the community outreach coordinator for the Brain Injury Association of Ohio.

Powers had the first Share and Care booth at a recent weekend Farmers Market in downtown Fremont. The booth featured balloon-making for children and jewelry for sale.

Share and Care seeks exposure at Farmers Market

“It is great for community exposure just talking to people and getting the word out there about what Share and Care is, and Katie, who works for us, volunteered to make the balloons,” Powers said. The agency has a main store at 129 Bidwell Ave. and is a United Way agency.

Powers brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She started her career at Temple Christian as a teacher. “I have always been drawn to serving the community. I am passionate about helping others, and my calling is nonprofits,” she said.

Share and Care relies on the support of donors, shoppers and volunteers. Whether it's sorting through donations, pricing items or running garage sales, every contribution plays a crucial role in supporting those in need.

Powers so far has overseen the rearrangement of the downtown store for better flow and paving the parking lot. She has also acquired a new building, which Share and Care are yet to discuss.

Share and Care to close Twiced Blessed location

“Another change is that, after much prayer and consideration, as careful stewards of Share and Care, we have decided to close our second location, Twice Blessed,” she said.

With sales at Share and Care exceeding all expectations and a close analysis of sales versus expenses at Twice Blessed, the store no longer needs to stay open, Powers said.

“The last day of operation at Twice Blessed will be Thursday, Aug. 29. We will post on Facebook for amazing deals until then. We send out a heartfelt thanks to our community for your continued support of our mission of neighbors helping neighbors,” she said.

Share and Care will offer a back-to-school supply assistance giveaway Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1209 Oak Harbor Road, Fremont. Call 419-334-2832 by Thursday for information about the giveaway, which is open to K-8 students.

Share and Care hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and the first Saturday of the month. Donations can also be dropped off Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or during regular hours.
