Vote now in Messenger/Herald female athlete of millennium bracket

In an effort to determine the top female athlete of this millennium with Messenger/Herald roots, we created a bracket.

Please vote below to reduce the field from 16 to eight. The poll runs from 3 p.m. Monday to 3 p.m. August 2.

The bracket will be cut in half each following week to ultimately identify one winner.

(1) Emily Pendleton, Woodmore — Pendleton won four state crowns in the discus.

(17) Miranda Wammes, St. Joseph Central Catholic — She collected 1,000 points for her career.

(5) Andrea Cecil, Oak Harbor — She collected 1,000 career points.

(12) Micki Kuns, Margaretta — She collected 1,000 kills for her career.

(8) Becky Babione, St. Joseph Central Catholic — She scored 1,000 career points.

(9) Kyleigh Dull, Lakota — She twice finished first at the state golf tourney.

(3) Erin Pendleton, Woodmore — She won two state crowns in the discus.

(19) Kelli Nasonti, Bellevue — She won 30 games her final two seasons in the circle.

(4) Amanda Cahill, Clyde — She was Sandusky Bay Conference player of the year four times.

(13) Shana Szypka, Genoa — She notched 280 strikeouts in one season.

(7) Azure Travis, Woodmore — She twice won both hurdles at state.

(10) Jamie Wonderly, Gibsonburg — She helped Gibsonburg win three state crowns.

(22) Kami Periat, Port Clinton — She was a state champ in the pool.

(27) Heather Hill, Gibsonburg — She collected 1,000 career points.

(2) Kenna Stimmel, Margaretta — She won the pole vault at state four times.

(18) Jenna Bloomfield, Gibsonburg — She hit 33 home runs in her career.
